Injector return-flow testing is valuable for identifying excessive internal hydraulic leakage.

It does not directly measure what happens after fuel reaches the nozzle holes.

Fuel atomization through the nozzle

Return testing mainly provides information about the first.

Deposits Can Affect the Nozzle Side

Depending on fuel quality, temperature and operating conditions, deposits can develop around nozzle holes or internal nozzle surfaces.
